Today we highlight woman led and run Seattle Chocolate Company. Founded in 1991, Seattle Chocolate Company boasts two celebrated brands – Seattle Chocolate and jcoco. Known for their exquisite, creamy chocolate, they’re endlessly inspired to evolve, to be better to the planet, and to leave the world kinder (and more delicious) than they found it.

About the Founder & the Story Behind

Seattle Chocolate Company began in 1991, making chocolate truffles and truffle bars here in the heart of the Pacific Northwest. When the original factory was destroyed by the Nisqually Earthquake in 2001, Jean Thompson was an investor in the company, while raising her two children after a career in Marketing. Jean loved the brand, and soon began helping at the company – one thing led to another, and when Seattle Chocolate needed a new owner & CEO a year later, Jean took on the challenge. Since then, Seattle Chocolate Company has continued to grow and innovate, bringing in lots of color, flavor, and creativity. Their mission is to brighten your day, and chocolate is how they do that.

What is your favorite part of doing what you do?

My favorite part about my business is using the power of chocolate and its widespread appeal to empower our consumers to help their neighbors during their time of need. Chocolate is a food, and we wanted to stomp out hunger in the USA. To date, we have donated almost 4 million servings of food!

What new product are you most excited about?

We recently updated the recipe for our Hikers Trail Mix bar. It is now called Double Chocolate Trail Mix and it has a creamy milk chocolate center, filled with almonds, peanuts, and dried cranberries, and is coated in a rich dark chocolate shell. It has quickly become my favorite bar and is the perfect treat for when I can't decide if I want milk or dark chocolate!
